Who is Textr?
Textr eSIM is run by Textr Inc and sells travel data in more than 130 destinations under the line "dollar store for travel data". That is a fair description of where it sits: it is one of the cheapest catalogues we track, and the savings come with terms that are stricter than anyone else here.
What it does unusually well is publish the things other sellers hide. Their unlimited plans state the daily full speed allowance and the throttle speed you drop to afterwards, which is roughly 768 kbps, and their plan pages say plainly whether hotspot works in that country. Most sellers leave both to the terms or to chance.
What it does badly is the safety net. The refund window is seven days, not thirty, and it closes the moment you install the eSIM even if you never activate the plan. Plans also expire if you do not activate within 30 days of buying. The public review picture is split, and it is worth being precise about it. Their apps are rated around 4.6 on iOS and 4.3 on Android, the Android score from several thousand ratings. Their Trustpilot page sits at 2.5 out of 5, but from only 14 reviews. Our rating drops the service component whenever a provider has fewer than 25 public reviews, because a handful of reviews is not evidence either way, so the score on this page is computed from coverage, value and features alone and does not include that 2.5. Read it with that in mind: Textr is genuinely cheap and genuinely wide, and the service record behind it is not yet established.

How Textr works, in detail
Activation
Install the eSIM before you travel, then activate the plan when you arrive. Their own pages warn that a plan expires if it is not activated within 30 days of purchase.
Plan type
Data only on the plans we compare, so your own number stays on your home SIM. A small number of destinations also offer a calls and texts plan.
Validity clock
The plan runs from activation, but the buying window is limited: activate within 30 days of purchase or it expires unused.
Hotspot sharing
Varies by destination and is stated on each plan page. Japan, for example, is marked no hotspot. Check the specific country before you rely on tethering.
5G access
5G, 4G or 3G depending on the local partner network, and their site names the operator per country.
Top-ups
None. Their plan pages state the eSIM is for one time use and cannot be topped up, so a plan that runs out means buying another.
ID checks (KYC)
No identity verification for data plans.
Apps
Rated about 4.6 on the App Store and 4.3 on Google Play, the latter from several thousand ratings. The apps score considerably better than the website does on Trustpilot.

Refunds
The tightest terms of any provider in our tables. A refund needs both that you have not installed the eSIM and that you have not activated the plan, and the request has to be in within seven days of purchase rather than the usual thirty. Once the eSIM is installed nothing is refundable, even if the plan was never activated. Anything bought with a referral code, coupon or credit is excluded entirely.
Support
Email and a public help centre. Reviews describe support as slow to reach a person, and refund complaints are the most common theme in the negative ones.

Check before you buy
- Install the eSIM only when you are ready to travel. Installing it ends your right to a refund even if you never activate the plan
- Buy close to your trip. A plan not activated within 30 days of purchase expires and is not refunded
- There are no top ups, so size the plan for the whole trip or expect to buy a second one
- Check hotspot on the specific country page before you count on tethering
- Their unlimited plans throttle to roughly 768 kbps after the daily allowance, which is usable for messages and not for video
