Coverage

Which mobile networks does Morocco have?

Morocco had 58.75 million mobile subscriptions by June 2025 according to ANRT, and about 86% of connections are prepaid.

  • Maroc Telecom: Maroc Telecom is the historic incumbent, majority owned by UAE group e&, and held 32.1% of active mobile subscriptions in Q2 2025 per regulator ANRT.
  • Orange Maroc: Orange grew its share of active mobile subscriptions to 34.7% in Q2 2025, making the three networks near equals in size.
  • Inwi: Inwi is the youngest of the three, known for cheap data, and one travel test rated its 4G coverage the best in the country.

Morocco's market is structured around just three licensed operators, so travel eSIMs for Morocco connect through Maroc Telecom, Orange or Inwi.

The eSIM plans we compare on this page connect to:

IAM 4G Orange Morocco 5G

Is 5G available in Morocco?

Commercial 5G launched in November 2025, with all three operators licensed and the first coverage in eight cities and their airports, including Rabat, Casablanca, Marrakech, Fes, Agadir and Tangier. ANRT targets 25% population coverage by the end of 2025 and 70% by 2030.

Data guide

How much data do you need in Morocco?

Light use is about 500 MB a day. That covers maps, messages, and some browsing. Normal use with photos, social apps, and short videos runs 1 to 1.5 GB a day. Streaming and hotspot use can eat 2 to 3 GB a day. Here is what each size costs in Morocco right now:

eSIM or a local SIM at the airport in Morocco?

An eSIM is ready before you land. No queue, no shop, no handing over your passport at a counter. Data for Morocco starts at $43.79 on this page, which is hard for airport kiosks to beat. A local SIM still makes sense if you need a local phone number or plan to stay for months. For a normal trip, the eSIM wins on price and effort.

3

Local rules

Good to know before you land in Morocco

All three operators run kiosks in the arrivals halls at Casablanca and Marrakech, open around the clock at Casablanca, and Inwi often hands out free promo SIMs you top up later. Typical airport deals in early 2026 were about $10 for 10 to 20GB, or $20 for Maroc Telecom's 20GB pack with minutes.

Inwi tested as the best 4G network overall, and the gap between operators shows up outside cities, for example in the Atlas Mountains. A free airport SIM has no credit on it, so top it up before you leave town.

Morocco Travel eSIM FAQ

Everything you need to know about using an eSIM in Morocco

What is the cheapest eSIM for Morocco?

Right now the cheapest option ranked by price per GB is MegaEsim with 50 GB for 30 Days at $43.79. That works out to $0.88 per GB. Prices change often, so the table above always shows the current order.

Which networks will my eSIM connect to in Morocco?

The plans we compare connect to IAM, Orange Morocco. The exact network depends on the plan you pick. Check the plan details before you buy if one network matters to you.

Do Morocco eSIMs support 5G?

16 of the 16 plans we track for Morocco include 5G where the local network offers it. The rest run on 4G, which is still fine for maps, calls over apps, and video.

Can I top up my Morocco eSIM if I run out?

Yes. 16 of the 16 plans here support top ups, so you can add data without buying a new eSIM. The rest need a fresh plan once the data ends.

Will I still receive bank SMS and OTP codes?

Yes, if you keep your home SIM active. Travel eSIMs are data only. Your phone can hold both at once, so leave your normal SIM on for SMS and use the eSIM for data. Turn off roaming data on the home SIM to avoid charges.

Do these eSIMs include a phone number or calls?

The plans we compare are data only, so there is no local number. Calls work fine over WhatsApp, FaceTime, or any app that uses data. If you need a real local number, a local SIM is the better tool.

How many GB do I need for a week in Morocco?

Around 3 to 5 GB covers a week of maps, messaging, and normal browsing. Heavy video or hotspot use needs 1 to 2 GB per day. Today the cheapest plan with at least 5 GB is MegaEsim at $7.03.
