Which mobile networks does Uzbekistan have?

Average 4G download speed climbed 32 percent in six months, from 16 Mbps at the end of 2024 to 21.1 Mbps in mid 2025, as the operators densify 4G along cities and highways.

  • Beeline Uzbekistan: The VEON owned network is currently the strongest performer, delivering the fastest average download speed in the country at 20.2 Mbps in the first half of 2025.
  • Ucell: A major national operator with wide 4G on several bands and one of the first to switch on 5G, live in Tashkent and Samarkand on 3500 MHz.
  • Mobiuz: Formerly UMS, one of the big three consumer networks, with average speeds of 14.2 Mbps in the first half of 2025, the slowest of the four.
  • Uztelecom (Uzmobile): The state operator, historically a landline company, now expanding mobile quickly and second on speed at 17.9 Mbps in the first half of 2025.

The eSIM plans we compare on this page connect to:

Is 5G available in Uzbekistan?

5G exists but is limited to Tashkent and Samarkand, mainly on Ucell and Uzmobile on the 3500 MHz band. Everywhere else you will be on 4G, and speeds outside cities are modest.

Data guide

How much data do you need in Uzbekistan?

Light use is about 500 MB a day. That covers maps, messages, and some browsing. Normal use with photos, social apps, and short videos runs 1 to 1.5 GB a day. Streaming and hotspot use can eat 2 to 3 GB a day. Here is what each size costs in Uzbekistan right now:

Before you buy

eSIM or a local SIM at the airport in Uzbekistan?

An eSIM is ready before you land. No queue, no shop, no handing over your passport at a counter. Data for Uzbekistan starts at $4.06 on this page, which is hard for airport kiosks to beat. A local SIM still makes sense if you need a local phone number or plan to stay for months. For a normal trip, the eSIM wins on price and effort.

Setup

Setting up your Uzbekistan eSIM

1

Buy your planYou get a QR code by email within minutes of paying.

2

Install before you flyScan the QR code on wifi at home. Airport and hotel wifi can be weak.

3

Turn it on when you landEnable the eSIM and turn on data roaming for it, then give it a minute to find the network.

4

Check the validity clockSome plans start counting at purchase, not at first use. Check before you buy.

Local rules

Good to know before you land in Uzbekistan

Registration needs your passport plus proof of where you are staying, and tourist SIMs work 30 to 90 days depending on operator. The big one: if you use a local SIM in your own phone for more than 30 days you must register the phone's IMEI at uzimei.uz for 75,000 som or it gets blocked, with a customs declaration needed for devices over 1,000 dollars. Under 30 days, or on a travel eSIM, you are fine.

Ucell has a desk in the baggage claim area at Tashkent airport selling standard tariffs at list price with foreign card payment accepted, and Uztelecom has a desk there too. Beeline tourist SIMs cost about 21,000 som for 3 GB or 42,000 som for 8 GB with minutes and SMS.

Buy at the official airport desks or operator stores, not from street sellers offering SIMs registered to someone else. Along the tourist route of Tashkent, Samarkand, Bukhara and Khiva coverage is decent, but download offline maps for train rides and desert stretches.

Uzbekistan Travel eSIM FAQ

Everything you need to know about using an eSIM in Uzbekistan

What is the cheapest eSIM for Uzbekistan?

Right now the cheapest option ranked by price per GB is MegaEsim with 5 GB for 30 Days at $4.06. That works out to $0.81 per GB. Prices change often, so the table above always shows the current order.

Which networks will my eSIM connect to in Uzbekistan?

The plans we compare connect to Beeline. The exact network depends on the plan you pick. Check the plan details before you buy if one network matters to you.

Do Uzbekistan eSIMs support 5G?

The networks our plans use in Uzbekistan currently run on 4G. That is enough for maps, messaging, video calls, and streaming in most cases.

Can I top up my Uzbekistan eSIM if I run out?

Yes. 17 of the 17 plans here support top ups, so you can add data without buying a new eSIM. The rest need a fresh plan once the data ends.

Will I still receive bank SMS and OTP codes?

Yes, if you keep your home SIM active. Travel eSIMs are data only. Your phone can hold both at once, so leave your normal SIM on for SMS and use the eSIM for data. Turn off roaming data on the home SIM to avoid charges.

Do these eSIMs include a phone number or calls?

The plans we compare are data only, so there is no local number. Calls work fine over WhatsApp, FaceTime, or any app that uses data. If you need a real local number, a local SIM is the better tool.

How many GB do I need for a week in Uzbekistan?

Around 3 to 5 GB covers a week of maps, messaging, and normal browsing. Heavy video or hotspot use needs 1 to 2 GB per day. Today the cheapest plan with at least 5 GB is MegaEsim at $4.06.
