UPeSIM eSIM review

4.6

The short answer. UPeSIM sells prepaid travel eSIM plans in 158 countries, and its cheapest rate today is $1.12 per GB. Its median rate of $2.23 per GB is about 21% below the $2.83 median across every plan we track. On price it is a reasonable default, and the country page for your destination will still show you whether someone there beats it.

Have we checked these prices?

Not yet. UPeSIM's prices here come from their own feed, and we have not built a checker for their shop yet, so nothing on this page has been confirmed against what a buyer actually sees. We are adding shop checks provider by provider and this page will say so when it is done.

A feed is not a shop. Feeds can list products that are not on sale, describe them differently, or carry a stale price, so a price nobody has checked again is only a number we copied.

UPeSIM did not pay for this review or this rating. The rating is computed from live catalogue data and cannot be bought. If you buy through a link on this page we may earn a commission, and the price you pay stays exactly the same.
About UPeSIM

Who is UPeSIM?

UPeSIM sells prepaid travel data across more than 200 destinations by its own count, and 158 by ours, through a website in eight languages and apps for iPhone and Android. It has been trading since July 2018, which makes it older than most of the brands on this site, and it names a real French company in its terms rather than hiding behind a footer line.

The range is deliberately small: one, two or three plans per destination rather than a wall of options, usually 1 GB, 5 GB and 10 GB. What you need to read carefully is the price. Every figure is quoted before tax, and their terms say VAT applies inside the EU, so what a European traveller actually pays is higher than the number on the page.

Watchdog notice

Read this before you buy from UPeSIM

UPeSIM is a French seller that has been trading since 2018, which makes it one of the older travel eSIM brands we list, and its terms name a real registered company you can look up. The catch is on the price. Every figure it advertises excludes VAT, and its own terms say VAT is due inside the EU, so a European buyer pays more than the number on the page while a buyer outside the EU pays what it says.

  • The price you see excludes VAT, and whether you pay it depends on where you are. Article 2 of their Terms of Sales reads: prices are indicated in euros without taxes, VAT and other taxes applicable on the day of the order and depending on the country of the buyer, and VAT is due in EU Zone. So an EU buyer should expect the figure in our table to rise at their payment step, and a buyer outside the EU should not. No VAT inclusive price is published anywhere on their site.
  • You pay in euros, not dollars. They sell in euros only, with no currency switcher, so the dollar figures in our tables are converted at the European Central Bank daily reference rate and refreshed every night. Your card is charged the euro amount and your bank adds its own rate and possibly a foreign transaction fee.
  • There is no cooling off period on an eSIM, and they say so plainly. Their terms cite article L.121-21-8 of the French Consumer Code, under which the right of withdrawal does not apply to a digital product. They also state no refund for a device that turns out to be incompatible or carrier locked, and that an eSIM cannot be reinstalled once used. Check your handset before you buy, not after.
  • The clock starts when you first use data, not when you buy. Their FAQ calls it the credit validity period and says it begins when the user starts using the internet. A separate expiry date sets the last day the eSIM can be installed at all, so the two dates are not the same thing.
  • Hotspot is allowed and they state it without hedging. Their FAQ answer is that UPeSIM lets you share the data connection via hotspot for other devices. That is a site wide statement rather than a per plan one, so we show it on every plan.
  • The company checks out. Their terms name UPeSIM as a simplified joint stock company at 12 place du General Leclerc, 92150 Suresnes, registered at RCS Nanterre under 841 222 474. The French company register returns the same number as an active company created on 17 July 2018 under the telecoms activity code, trading as MYSIM. Worth noting that the address in their website markup is a Paris one, while the registered office in their own terms is the Suresnes address that matches the register.
  • We could not read any independent review score for them. Trustpilot blocks our server, so unlike some sellers we cannot tell you whether a profile exists or what it says. Their own site claims 4.9 out of 5 from 281 Google Play reviews and 4.9 from 310 App Store reviews, which are their figures and not ours.
  • On price they sit just below the middle of the market. Their median plan works out at about $2.28 per gigabyte against a $2.94 median across everything we track, so roughly a fifth cheaper than the typical plan. They are not the cheapest anywhere we compared, which is normal: the cheapest plan in any country is the best of nearly fifty sellers.

We list UPeSIM because its prices are real and its plans rank on the same maths as everyone else's. We publish what we could not verify so you can decide with the facts in front of you.

Technical details

How UPeSIM works, in detail

Activation
Buy on the website or in the app and install from the QR code they email. Apps exist for iPhone and Android.
Plan type
Data only. No phone number, and calls or texts only through apps such as WhatsApp.
Validity clock
On first use. Their FAQ says the credit validity period begins when you start using the internet, and a separate expiry date sets the last day the eSIM can be installed.
Hotspot sharing
Allowed. Their FAQ states that UPeSIM lets you share the data connection via hotspot for other devices.
5G access
Their pages say 4G LTE and 5G where available, which describes the network rather than promising a generation on a given plan, so we do not mark any plan as 5G.
Top ups
Yes. Their FAQ says a new data package applies immediately to your existing eSIM while the validity period is still active, with no reinstallation.
ID checks (KYC)
Nothing published about identity checks anywhere on the site.
Apps
Apps for iPhone and Android, used for installing, topping up and watching data usage.
Payments
Visa and Mastercard, Apple Pay and PayPal, listed in article 3 of their Terms of Sales. The card is debited at the time of the order and all orders are payable in euros.
Refunds
There is no cooling off period. Their terms cite article L.121-21-8 of the French Consumer Code, under which the right of withdrawal does not apply to a digital product such as an eSIM. They further state that no refund is given where the device turns out not to support eSIM or is carrier locked, and that an eSIM cannot be reinstalled once it has been used. Check compatibility and unlock status before buying.
Support
A contact page and an in app channel. Their site promises a response within 15 minutes, which is their claim rather than anything we measured. No phone number is published.

PROS

  • Trading since 2018 and names a real registered French company in its terms, which many newer sellers do not
  • A short, readable range of one to three plans per destination instead of dozens of near identical options
  • Hotspot and top ups are both stated plainly in their own FAQ rather than left to guesswork
  • Apps for both iPhone and Android, not just a website
  • Validity starts on first use, so buying early does not burn days

CONS

  • Every price excludes VAT, and their terms say VAT is due inside the EU, so an EU buyer pays more than the figure shown
  • No cooling off period at all, and no refund if your device turns out to be incompatible or locked
  • Euro pricing only, so every dollar figure here is a conversion and your bank adds its own
  • No independent review score we can read, since Trustpilot blocks our server
  • The address in their website markup is not the registered office named in their own terms

Check before you buy

  • If you are buying from inside the EU, add your local VAT to the price before comparing it with anything else on this page
  • Check your handset supports eSIM and is carrier unlocked before you pay, because their terms rule out a refund for either
  • The expiry date and the validity period are two different things: one is the last day you can install it, the other is how long the data lasts once you start using it
  • One Turkey plan is sold as unlimited with an asterisk and no published daily allowance, so we show no price per gigabyte for it

Questions

UPeSIM eSIM FAQ

What people ask before they buy an UPeSIM eSIM, answered from live data

Is UPeSIM legit?

UPeSIM is a real seller with 212 live plans in our catalogue covering 158 countries, and every one of those prices is checked again at each catalogue refresh. Our own rating of 4.6 out of 5 is computed from prices and coverage and cannot be bought.

How much does an UPeSIM eSIM cost?

UPeSIM plans run from $2.23 to $111.87. Ranked by real price per GB the best rate is 10 GB for 30 Days at $11.18, which is $1.12 per GB. Across the whole catalogue the median is $2.23 per GB against a market median of $2.83, so a typical UPeSIM plan is cheaper than the market.

Does UPeSIM have a discount code?

Yes. ESIMWATCHDOG: 10% off any UPeSIM plan at checkout, once per customer We tested it at UPeSIM's own checkout before listing it, and using it never changes where UPeSIM ranks on this site.

Which countries does UPeSIM cover?

158 countries in our catalogue. The cheapest UPeSIM destinations by price per GB right now are Austria ($1.12), Belgium ($1.12), Bulgaria ($1.12). Every country in the table on this page links to its full comparison, where UPeSIM is ranked against every other provider we track.

Can I use an UPeSIM eSIM as a hotspot?

Allowed. Their FAQ states that UPeSIM lets you share the data connection via hotspot for other devices.

Does UPeSIM sell unlimited data plans?

1 of its 212 plans is sold as unlimited. In practice it is a fair use plan: full speed up to a daily allowance, then slower. That is why it carries no price per GB in our tables.

How do I install an UPeSIM eSIM?

Buy on the website or in the app and install from the QR code they email. Apps exist for iPhone and Android. Buy the plan online, scan the QR code on wifi before you fly, and leave the new line switched off until you land. Then turn on data roaming for the UPeSIM line and give it a minute to attach to a network. If the code will not install, our guide to eSIM QR code errors covers every message a phone can show.

We may earn a commission. It never changes the ranking or the rating.
