CloudOn eSIM review

3.7

The short answer. CloudOn sells prepaid travel eSIM plans in 210 countries, and its cheapest rate today is $0.31 per GB. Its median rate of $3.49 per GB is about 23% above the $2.83 median across every plan we track. You are paying above the middle of the market for a typical plan here, so open the country page for your destination before you buy: it ranks every seller we track on the same maths. It also sells plans marketed as unlimited, the most generous of them allowing 5 GB a day at full speed.

Have we checked these prices?

97% of CloudOn's plans on this site were checked against CloudOn's own shop on 16 October 2026, one country page at a time. We confirm the product is on sale and that the price is the one they charge, and we take their price over ours whenever the two disagree.

A feed is not a shop. Feeds can list products that are not on sale, describe them differently, or carry a stale price, so a price nobody has checked again is only a number we copied.

CloudOn did not pay for this review or this rating. The rating is computed from live catalogue data and cannot be bought. If you buy through a link on this page we may earn a commission, and the price you pay stays exactly the same.
About CloudOn

Who is CloudOn?

CloudOn is a travel eSIM shop and app run by Gold Lavender Co., Ltd., which its terms and privacy policy describe as a company incorporated in Japan, while the site footer signs off as CloudOn eSIM Technologies and no registration number or street address appears anywhere on cloudon.app; the only address published is the Shinjuku, Tokyo one in the Google Play developer block, listed next to a Bangladesh phone number. It sells data plans for what it calls 190+ countries and 200+ partner networks through the website and iOS and Android apps, an account is required to buy, and everything about it is new: the terms, privacy policy and refund policy are all dated 25 February 2026, the iOS app reached version 1.0 on 25 March 2026, and the Trustpilot profile was claimed in April 2026.

On paper the product is simple. Validity starts when the eSIM first connects to a network rather than at purchase, top ups are added to the existing eSIM from the account with no new QR code, the QR arrives by email and in the account, and the app can install the eSIM directly with no scan. Hotspot is decided plan by plan and only shown on the plan detail page. Entry prices on the pages checked are low, with 1 GB for 7 days at $3.99 in Japan, $3.49 in Turkey and Thailand and $4.49 in the United States. The refund policy gives 30 days and a full refund for an eSIM that was not installed or not activated, but the terms, dated the same day, say every purchase is final once activated and allow only 7 days for one that was never activated. The homepage claims of 2M+ travellers and 18,400 travellers rating it excellent sit against a Trustpilot page with 3 reviews at 4.0 and an App Store listing with 7 ratings, far too few to judge the service by.

Watchdog notice

Read this before you buy from CloudOn

CloudOn's own pages make claims we could not match to anything we can check, and two of its documents contradict each other. None of this means the eSIMs do not work, and the prices in our tables are the live ones, but read these points before you pay.

  • Who you are paying is unclear. The terms and privacy policy name Gold Lavender Co., Ltd., incorporated in Japan. The site footer says CloudOn eSIM Technologies. No company registration number or street address is published anywhere on cloudon.app. The only address we found is in the Google Play developer listing, in Shinjuku, Tokyo, next to a Bangladesh phone number and a personal Gmail address.
  • The homepage says 2M+ travellers use CloudOn and that 18,400 travellers rate it excellent. Trustpilot shows 3 reviews, all posted on two days in April 2026, and the App Store shows 7 ratings. We found nothing that supports the larger numbers.
  • Two refund rules contradict each other. The refund policy gives 30 days and a full refund for an eSIM that was not installed or activated. The terms, dated the same day, say every purchase is final once activated and allow only 7 days for one that was never activated. The DTAC Thailand 50GB plan and every Unlimited plan carry separate refund rules inside Plan details.
  • Support is advertised as 24/7 on one page and as replies within 24 hours on business days on the contact page.
  • The help centre says a top up adds data to your existing eSIM. A country page FAQ says you buy a new plan and get a fresh QR code. Ask support before you rely on either.
  • An account is required to buy, there is no guest checkout, and prices are shown in USD and BDT only.
  • CloudOn gave us the coupon code ESIMWATCHDOG. It earns us a commission but we could find no discount it gives you, so we do not show it on our tables.

We list CloudOn because its prices are real and its plans rank on the same maths as everyone else's. We publish what we could not verify so you can decide with the facts in front of you.

Technical details

How CloudOn works, in detail

Activation
Account required; the help centre says you cannot buy without one, sign up is by email or Google. After payment the QR code arrives by email and sits in the account under My eSIMs, a manual activation code is on the eSIM detail page for phones that cannot scan, and the app can hand the profile straight to the phone with no QR scan, per the guides page. Install on WiFi before you fly, set the CloudOn line as the data plan and switch on data roaming for it when you land.
Plan type
Data plans only on the Japan, Turkey, Thailand and United States pages checked, no phone number. The help centre says to keep your regular SIM active for calls and texts. The homepage promotes Teleleo, a separate service reached through a referral link, for keeping a home number reachable.
Validity clock
Starts when the eSIM first connects to a network, not at purchase or install, per the help centre, the install guide and the homepage FAQ: buy a 7 day plan, leave it a week, and you still get 7 full days. How long an unused eSIM stays valid before it must be activated is not stated anywhere checked.
Hotspot sharing
Per plan. The help centre says hotspot support depends on the plan and destination and is labelled on the plan detail page; the country page FAQs say many plans support it. The terms add that plans without tethering must not be used for it, and where it is allowed it is subject to the network operator's fair use policy.
5G access
Every country page checked carries a 4G / 5G chip and the App Store listing says fast 4G/5G networks via local carrier partnerships. The Japan FAQ says select plans include 5G where available and names NTT Docomo, SoftBank and KDDI; the Turkey FAQ names Turkcell, Vodafone and Turk Telekom but promises only 4G/LTE; the United States FAQ names AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile; Thailand names AIS, DTAC and TrueMove H. The listing data does not say which network each plan uses.
Top ups
Yes per the help centre: buy a top up from the eSIM detail page in the account and it is added to the existing eSIM with no new QR code. The terms say top ups are available where offered and eligibility depends on the plan type and remaining validity. The country page FAQs instead say to buy a new plan with a fresh QR code if you run out.
ID checks (KYC)
Not mentioned anywhere checked: terms, privacy policy, compatibility page, help centre or country pages. The terms require buyers to be at least 18.
Apps
iOS app CloudOn: eSim & Travel Data by GOLD LAVENDER CO., LTD, version 1.0 on 25 March 2026 and 1.0.10 on 18 August 2026, 5.0 from 7 ratings on the US listing, iOS 15.5 or later. Android app by Gold Lavender Co. Ltd. on Google Play, 1k+ downloads, updated 18 August 2026, with a one time SIM replacement listed in the latest release notes. The App Store shows other eSIM apps from the same developer, including Unlimited, LifeTime 5G eSIM and Global eSIM Marketplace.
Payments
The help centre lists Visa, Mastercard and American Express through Stripe; the terms and privacy policy list Stripe, PayPal, Apple Pay and Google Pay. Prices on the pages checked are in USD and the help centre says only USD and BDT are supported, with the exchange rate set by Stripe at purchase. Referral credit is paid as Cloud Money.
Refunds
Refund policy dated 25 February 2026: request within 30 days of purchase; a full refund if the eSIM was not installed or the plan not activated; after activation only a partial refund for unused data, and only where a network or technical failure on their side is verified; no refund if a single use eSIM was removed from the phone before the request; discount code purchases are non refundable once installed or activated; the DTAC Thailand 50GB 10 day plan and all Unlimited plans follow their own rules in Plan details; requests go through the website chat or in app chat. The terms, dated the same day, say all purchases are final once activated, with a refund only for an eSIM never activated and requested within 7 days or a verified technical failure, and exclude device incompatibility, poor coverage, installation errors and changed travel plans.
Support
Website chat widget and in app chat (the route the refund page names), a Chat on WhatsApp button on the homepage with no number shown in the page, email at hello@cloudon.app and a contact form. The contact page promises a reply within 24 hours on business days while the homepage advertises 24/7 Customer Support around the clock. No phone number on the site; the Google Play developer block lists +880 1988 438100 and a personal Gmail address.

Is there a CloudOn discount code?

Not one we can vouch for right now. We only publish a CloudOn promo code after testing it at CloudOn's own checkout, and most codes on coupon sites are expired or never worked. If a working discount code appears it will be listed here, and it will never change where CloudOn ranks in our tables.

  • Low entry prices on the pages checked: 1 GB for 7 days at $3.99 in Japan, $3.49 in Turkey and Thailand, $4.49 in the United States; Japan 100 GB for 31 days at $29.99

  • Account required, no guest checkout
  • Terms and refund policy contradict each other: final once activated and 7 days in the terms, 30 days and partial refunds after activation in the refund policy
  • Hotspot is decided per plan and only shown on the plan detail page, so it cannot be checked from the country listing
  • Help centre lists only USD and BDT as supported currencies, and its card only payment list differs from the PayPal, Apple Pay and Google Pay list in the terms

Reputation check

What real CloudOn customers say

4 / 5 Trustpilot, 3 reviews. Collected independently of us, checked Oct 2026. Too few reviews to influence our rating.

Most praised

  • Good service on a Malaysia and Thailand trip
  • Easy to use and convenient for travel
  • Solid coverage

Most complained about

  • None; all 3 reviews are 5 stars and were posted on 1 and 2 April 2026, and Trustpilot notes the company has not invited customers recently

Check before you buy

  • Two refund rules dated the same day: the terms say all purchases are final once activated and allow a refund only for an eSIM never activated and requested within 7 days, while the refund policy gives 30 days from purchase, a full refund for an eSIM not installed or not activated and a possible partial refund after activation for a verified technical failure
  • Remove a single use eSIM from the phone before asking for a refund and the refund policy says they cannot refund or reassign a new eSIM; the help centre says QR codes are single use and a deleted eSIM cannot be reinstalled with the same code, so contact support first
  • Anything bought with a discount code is non refundable once installed or activated, per the refund policy
  • The DTAC Thailand 50GB 10 day plan and every Unlimited plan follow their own refund rules found only in Plan details on the product page, and the help centre says some unlimited plans have fair use limits after a threshold it does not state
  • The homepage hero says Join 2M+ Travelers and a homepage widget says 18,400 travellers rate CloudOn excellent at 4.8, yet Trustpilot shows 3 reviews, the App Store 7 ratings and Google Play 1k+ downloads
  • Refund requests must go through the website chat or in app chat per the refund page, the contact page promises a reply within 24 hours on business days, the homepage advertises 24/7 support, and the only phone number anywhere is the +880 Bangladesh number in the Google Play developer block, listed alongside a personal Gmail address and a Tokyo street address
  • The help centre says top ups are added to the existing eSIM, but the FAQ on the country pages says to buy a new plan with a fresh QR code if you run out, and the terms say top up eligibility depends on plan type and remaining validity
  • On the Japan page's own product data the Unlimited 15 day plan is $57.99 while Unlimited 30 days is $48.99, and two 50 GB plans sit side by side at $39.99 for 30 days and $23.99 for 31 days with nothing in the listing saying what separates them
  • Plans without tethering must not be used for hotspot per the terms, and where allowed it is subject to the network operator's fair use policy; the label is on the plan detail page only
  • No guest checkout: the help centre says an account is required to buy and manage eSIMs
  • The Turkey FAQ promises 4G/LTE data even though the Turkey page carries the same 4G / 5G chip as every other country page
  • Only USD and BDT are supported currencies per the help centre, with the exchange rate set by Stripe at the time of purchase
  • The Teleleo panel on the homepage (keep your home number for bank SMS and OTP codes) links to teleleo.com through a referral URL and is a separate service, not part of the CloudOn plan
  • Terms are governed by Japanese law with exclusive jurisdiction of the Tokyo District Court, and accounts can be terminated at the company's sole discretion with or without notice
  • Installation needs an internet connection and data roaming must be switched on for the CloudOn line once you land; the guides page calls roaming the step people most often miss

Questions

CloudOn eSIM FAQ

What people ask before they buy a CloudOn eSIM, answered from live data

Is CloudOn legit?

CloudOn is a real seller with 2609 live plans in our catalogue covering 210 countries, and every one of those prices is checked again at each catalogue refresh. 97% of those plans were checked against CloudOn's own shop on 16 October 2026, so the prices here are the ones a buyer sees. Trustpilot shows 4 out of 5 from 3 reviews, collected independently of us. Our own rating of 3.7 out of 5 is computed from prices and coverage and cannot be bought.

How much does a CloudOn eSIM cost?

CloudOn plans run from $2.99 to $14,312.49. Ranked by real price per GB the best rate is 135 GB for 91 Days at $41.99, which is $0.31 per GB. Across the whole catalogue the median is $3.49 per GB against a market median of $2.83, so a typical CloudOn plan is dearer than the market.

Does CloudOn have a discount code?

Not one we can vouch for. We only publish CloudOn promo codes that we have tested at its checkout, and there is no working code right now. Most codes on coupon sites are expired, so check the total on the payment page before you count on a discount.

Which countries does CloudOn cover?

210 countries in our catalogue. The cheapest CloudOn destinations by price per GB right now are Japan ($0.31), Turkey ($0.48), Singapore ($0.54). Every country in the table on this page links to its full comparison, where CloudOn is ranked against every other provider we track.

Can I use a CloudOn eSIM as a hotspot?

Per plan. The help centre says hotspot support depends on the plan and destination and is labelled on the plan detail page; the country page FAQs say many plans support it. The terms add that plans without tethering must not be used for it, and where it is allowed it is subject to the network operator's fair use policy.

Does CloudOn sell unlimited data plans?

1005 of its 2609 plans are sold as unlimited. In practice they are fair use plans: full speed up to a daily allowance, then slower. That is why they carry no price per GB in our tables.

How do I install a CloudOn eSIM?

Account required; the help centre says you cannot buy without one, sign up is by email or Google. After payment the QR code arrives by email and sits in the account under My eSIMs, a manual activation code is on the eSIM detail page for phones that cannot scan, and the app can hand the profile straight to the phone with no QR scan, per the guides page. Install on WiFi before you fly, set the CloudOn line as the data plan and switch on data roaming for it when you land. Buy the plan online, scan the QR code on wifi before you fly, and leave the new line switched off until you land. Then turn on data roaming for the CloudOn line and give it a minute to attach to a network. If the code will not install, our guide to eSIM QR code errors covers every message a phone can show.
