Nomad eSIM review

4.2

The short answer. Nomad sells prepaid travel eSIM plans in 208 countries, and its cheapest rate today is $0.50 per GB. Its median rate of $3.00 per GB is about 6% above the $2.83 median across every plan we track. You are paying above the middle of the market for a typical plan here, so open the country page for your destination before you buy: it ranks every seller we track on the same maths.

Have we checked these prices?

86% of Nomad's plans on this site were checked against Nomad's own shop on 16 October 2026, one country page at a time. We confirm the product is on sale and that the price is the one they charge, and we take their price over ours whenever the two disagree.

A feed is not a shop. Feeds can list products that are not on sale, describe them differently, or carry a stale price, so a price nobody has checked again is only a number we copied.

Nomad did not pay for this review or this rating. The rating is computed from live catalogue data and cannot be bought. If you buy through a link on this page we may earn a commission, and the price you pay stays exactly the same.
About Nomad

Who is Nomad?

Nomad is the travel eSIM brand of LotusFlare, a Silicon Valley telecoms software company founded in 2014 and based in Santa Clara, California. Nomad itself launched in 2020, and LotusFlare's day job is building the billing and commerce platforms that mobile operators run on, which is an unusual place for a consumer eSIM brand to come from and shows in how the product is put together.

The catalogue is one of the widest we track: single country plans across more than two hundred destinations, fourteen regional and global bundles, and validity running from a few days to a full year. Everything is data only, hotspot is allowed on every plan rather than reserved for a premium tier, and top ups are done in the app without buying a new eSIM.

On price Nomad sits in the middle of our tables rather than at the bottom. It is not the provider to pick if the only thing that matters is the lowest rate per gigabyte, and it is a sensible pick if you want a large catalogue, a genuinely good app and the option of a plan that lasts a year.

Technical details

How Nomad works, in detail

Activation
Install from the app or by QR code before you fly, then turn on data roaming for the Nomad line when you land.
Plan type
Data only on the plans we compare, so your own number stays on your home SIM. Nomad sells a separate UK voice plan outside this catalogue.
Validity clock
The clock starts when the eSIM first connects at the destination, not at purchase.
Hotspot sharing
Allowed on all plans, not restricted to a premium tier.
5G access
5G where the partner network offers it, otherwise 4G. Nomad rides Tier 1 partners in most markets.
Top ups
Top ups are done inside the app on a live eSIM, so you do not have to buy and install a second plan mid trip.
ID checks (KYC)
No identity check for data plans.
Apps
iOS around 4.8, Android around 4.7. The app is one of the better ones in this market and handles install, usage and top ups in one place.
Payments
Cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay and PayPal. Nomad Points earned on purchases can be spent against future plans.
Refunds
Requests must be made within 30 days of purchase. An eSIM you have not installed or activated is normally fully refundable. Once a plan is activated it counts as used, and a partial refund is only considered where there was a verified network or technical failure. Unlimited plans, the Thailand 10 day 50 GB plan, UK voice plans and the Europe Nomad Pass subscription are excluded from refunds altogether. Money back to the card takes two to five working days; taking it as Nomad Points is instant.
Support
24/7 support through the app and the help centre, with a large public knowledge base. Reviewers generally report quick replies rather than instant ones.

Is there a Nomad discount code?

Not one we can vouch for right now. We only publish a Nomad promo code after testing it at Nomad's own checkout, and most codes on coupon sites are expired or never worked. If a working discount code appears it will be listed here, and it will never change where Nomad ranks in our tables.

PROS

  • One of the widest catalogues we track, over two hundred destinations plus fourteen regional and global bundles
  • Hotspot allowed on every plan, not held back for a premium tier
  • Top ups on a live eSIM in the app, so no second install mid trip
  • Plans up to a full year, which very few travel eSIM sellers offer
  • Large and consistent review base: 4.3 from more than 42,000 Trustpilot reviews

CONS

  • Mid table on price per gigabyte, not a budget option
  • Unlimited plans are non refundable, and Nomad sells a lot of them
  • Reviews show real inconsistency in connection quality between destinations
  • Regional plan country lists differ a lot between bundles, so the name tells you little
Reputation check

What real Nomad customers say

4.3 / 5 Trustpilot, 42,849 reviews. Collected independently of us, checked Oct 2026.

Most praised

  • Setup and installation described as straightforward
  • Competitive pricing for the coverage
  • Reliable data in mainstream destinations
  • App is intuitive and easy to use

Most complained about

  • Connection quality inconsistent in some destinations
  • Slow speeds or lost signal in crowded urban areas
  • Activation problems on first use for a minority
  • Occasional disputes about data usage figures

Check before you buy

  • Every unlimited plan is excluded from refunds, so buy a fixed size plan if you want the safety net
  • The Thailand 10 day 50 GB plan is their best value per GB in our table and is also on the non refundable list
  • A refund is only straightforward before the eSIM is installed or activated, so do not install early to test
  • Validity starts on first connection at the destination, not at purchase, which works in your favour if you buy ahead

Questions

Nomad eSIM FAQ

What people ask before they buy a Nomad eSIM, answered from live data

Is Nomad legit?

Nomad is a real seller with 1356 live plans in our catalogue covering 208 countries, and every one of those prices is checked again at each catalogue refresh. 86% of those plans were checked against Nomad's own shop on 16 October 2026, so the prices here are the ones a buyer sees. Trustpilot shows 4.3 out of 5 from 42,849 reviews, collected independently of us. Our own rating of 4.2 out of 5 is computed from prices and coverage and cannot be bought.

How much does a Nomad eSIM cost?

Nomad plans run from $3.00 to $129.00. Ranked by real price per GB the best rate is 50 GB for 10 Days at $15.00, which is $0.50 per GB. Across the whole catalogue the median is $3.00 per GB against a market median of $2.83, so a typical Nomad plan is dearer than the market.

Does Nomad have a discount code?

Not one we can vouch for. We only publish Nomad promo codes that we have tested at its checkout, and there is no working code right now. Most codes on coupon sites are expired, so check the total on the payment page before you count on a discount.

Which countries does Nomad cover?

208 countries in our catalogue. The cheapest Nomad destinations by price per GB right now are Thailand ($0.50), USA ($0.60), Croatia ($0.62). Every country in the table on this page links to its full comparison, where Nomad is ranked against every other provider we track.

Can I use a Nomad eSIM as a hotspot?

Allowed on all plans, not restricted to a premium tier.

Does Nomad sell unlimited data plans?

246 of its 1356 plans are sold as unlimited. In practice they are fair use plans: full speed up to a daily allowance, then slower. That is why they carry no price per GB in our tables.

How do I install a Nomad eSIM?

Install from the app or by QR code before you fly, then turn on data roaming for the Nomad line when you land. Buy the plan online, scan the QR code on wifi before you fly, and leave the new line switched off until you land. Then turn on data roaming for the Nomad line and give it a minute to attach to a network. If the code will not install, our guide to eSIM QR code errors covers every message a phone can show.
