Wanderly eSIM review

4.8

The short answer. Wanderly sells prepaid travel eSIM plans in 203 countries, and its cheapest rate today is $0.36 per GB. Its median rate of $1.90 per GB is about 33% below the $2.83 median across every plan we track. On price it is a reasonable default, and the country page for your destination will still show you whether someone there beats it.

Have we checked these prices?

95% of Wanderly's plans on this site were checked against Wanderly's own shop on 16 October 2026, one country page at a time. We confirm the product is on sale and that the price is the one they charge, and we take their price over ours whenever the two disagree.

A feed is not a shop. Feeds can list products that are not on sale, describe them differently, or carry a stale price, so a price nobody has checked again is only a number we copied.

Wanderly did not pay for this review or this rating. The rating is computed from live catalogue data and cannot be bought. If you buy through a link on this page we may earn a commission, and the price you pay stays exactly the same.
About Wanderly

Who is Wanderly?

Wanderly is a travel eSIM marketplace run by Wanderly Technologies LLC, a California limited liability company whose terms and privacy policy give an address at 4464 Lone Tree Way #3093, Antioch, California, and whose privacy page publishes a California entity number, 202253719897. It sells data only plans for what the site calls 200+ countries and regions through the website, guest checkout included, and through an iOS app that only reached version 1.0 on 7 August 2026; no Android app was found. The unusual part of the setup is that a third party, Zotlo (Z3P LLP in London), is the merchant of record: Zotlo's name is what appears on the card statement, the refund page routes refund requests to Zotlo, and the terms are governed by the law and courts of England and Wales even though the company is Californian.

The product itself reads well on paper. Validity starts when the eSIM first connects to a network at the destination, every Japan and Turkey plan can be topped up without reinstalling, hotspot is allowed on all plans, and a QR code arrives by email within a minute and sits in the dashboard too. Entry prices on the pages checked are low, with 1 GB for 7 days at $1.99 in Japan, in Turkey and on a 31 country Europe plan, and new customers can claim a free 500 MB eSIM without giving a card. Against that, the homepage advertises a 30 day money back guarantee while the refund page gives 14 days and closes the window once the product is delivered or accessed, and the Trustpilot profile holds just 2 reviews at 3.4, far too few to judge the service by.

Technical details

How Wanderly works, in detail

Activation
Guest checkout is fine. The QR code and activation details arrive by email within a minute and also sit in the dashboard, per the help centre. Scan it or enter the activation details manually, install on home WiFi before you fly, then turn on data roaming for the travel line when you land. The QR is single install; a new install code for another phone is requested from the dashboard.
Plan type
Data only. The help centre says to keep the primary SIM active for calls and SMS, and every destination page checked carries a Data only eSIM label.
Validity clock
Starts when the eSIM first connects to a network at the destination, not at purchase, per the Japan, Turkey and Europe pages. The help centre says most plans work this way and that the order details are the authority. How long an unactivated plan stays valid is not stated.
Hotspot sharing
Allowed on all plans per the help centre, which says connected devices draw from the same allowance and may run at the plan's reduced speed once any high speed allowance is used up.
5G access
Destination pages list 3G/4G/5G. Japan plans connect to Docomo or SoftBank with 4G/5G in the big cities, Turkey to Turkcell or Vodafone TR. The API docs show a per plan network_speed field, 3G in the example given, so speed varies by plan.
Top ups
All 68 Japan plans and all 67 Turkey plans can be topped up without reinstalling the eSIM, per their destination pages, and the Europe page lists top up as available. The API docs describe it as data reloadable for the same area within the validity period.
ID checks (KYC)
Not mentioned at checkout, on the destination pages checked or in the help centre. The API docs carry a per plan kyc_required flag, false in the example shown.
Apps
iOS app, Wanderly eSIM: Travel and Data, by Wanderly Technologies LLC, version 1.0 on 7 August 2026 and 5 ratings on the US listing. No Android app found: the site only loads an iOS store link, and the Wanderly app on Google Play is a story telling app from Wanderly Stories at wander.ly, a different business.
Payments
Credit and debit cards including Apple Pay and Google Pay where the device supports them, cryptocurrency through a crypto payment processor, and wallet balance from a top up, referral reward or refund. Prices shown in USD, EUR or GBP. Zotlo (Z3P LLP, London) is the merchant of record, so its name appears on the card statement. No PayPal mentioned.
Refunds
Request within 14 days of purchase, provided the digital product has not been fully delivered or accessed, per the refund page dated March 2026; once delivery or activation begins the right to withdraw may be lost. The help centre adds that a never installed profile with no data used, an unresolved technical fault on their side, a plan that does not cover the destination or a duplicate charge usually qualify, while an activated plan with data used, a carrier locked or non eSIM phone and a plan that expired unused do not. Cards take 5 to 10 business days, crypto is refunded as store credit.
Support
Email at support@getwanderly.com, a live chat and a contact form on the site. The contact page claims 24/7 support with a typical reply within 2 hours and a promise to respond within 24 hours. No phone number on the site; the App Store trader block lists +1 650 753 1775.

PROS

  • A free 1GB eSIM is offered in around a hundred countries to first time users, claimed inside their app rather than bought on the web. We do not put it in the comparison tables, because a plan priced at zero would sort above every purchasable plan in the country and it cannot be bought from a link, but it is a real offer and worth knowing about if you are willing to install the app
  • Validity starts on first network connection at the destination, so buying and installing ahead costs nothing
  • Top up without reinstalling on every Japan and Turkey plan and on the Europe plan
  • Hotspot and tethering allowed on all plans per the help centre
  • Guest checkout with the QR code emailed within a minute and kept in the dashboard, plus a reissued install code for a new phone with remaining data carried over
  • Low entry prices on the pages checked: 1 GB for 7 days at $1.99 in Japan, Turkey and the 31 country Europe plan, Turkey 50 GB for 30 days at $20.99
  • Free 500 MB eSIM for new customers with no card collected
  • Legal entity, California entity number and street address published in the terms and privacy policy

CONS

  • Trustpilot has only 2 reviews at 3.4, far too few to judge the service by
  • The iOS app only reached version 1.0 on 7 August 2026 and no Android app was found
  • Refunds and billing run through Zotlo, a London merchant of record, not Wanderly itself
  • The homepage advertises a 30 day money back guarantee while the refund page gives 14 days and closes the window once the product is delivered or accessed
  • Terms are governed by the law and courts of England and Wales for a California company
  • Crypto payments are refunded only as store credit
Reputation check

What real Wanderly customers say

3.4 / 5 Trustpilot, 2 reviews. Collected independently of us, checked Oct 2026. Too few reviews to influence our rating.

Most praised

  • Easy setup
  • Free data option for new users
  • Convenient for getting online on arrival

Most complained about

  • 5G advertised but only 4G received, called false advertising by the reviewer
  • The company reply said it could not find the reviewer's account

Check before you buy

  • The homepage hero advertises a 30 day guarantee with a money back policy, but the refund page dated March 2026 gives 14 days from purchase and only while the digital product has not been fully delivered or accessed; go by the refund page
  • Zotlo (Z3P LLP, London) is the merchant of record, so the card statement shows Zotlo, not Wanderly; the help centre has an article for people who do not recognise the charge
  • Two refund routes are published: the refund page sends requests to account.zotlo.com or support@zotlo.com and says Zotlo decides eligibility, timing and method, while the help centre says to open a ticket with Wanderly support quoting the order number
  • The terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales with exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales after 30 days of good faith negotiation, even though the operator is a California LLC
  • No refund for a carrier locked or non eSIM phone, or for a plan that expired unused, per the refund eligibility article
  • Crypto payments are refunded as store credit by default because they cannot be reversed
  • Coverage is stated as 200+ countries and regions on the site but 150+ countries on the App Store listing
  • QR codes are single install; a second phone needs a reissued install code from the dashboard
  • The help centre says most plans start on first network connection and that the order details are the authority, so check the order confirmation; how long an unactivated plan stays valid is not stated anywhere checked
  • Destination pages list 3G/4G/5G with no per plan speed guarantee, the API docs show a per plan network_speed field that reads 3G in the example, and the one negative Trustpilot review is about getting 4G where 5G was advertised
  • Unlimited day passes from $1.99 per day carry no stated fair use threshold or throttle speed on the destination pages checked

Questions

Wanderly eSIM FAQ

What people ask before they buy a Wanderly eSIM, answered from live data

Is Wanderly legit?

Wanderly is a real seller with 6350 live plans in our catalogue covering 203 countries, and every one of those prices is checked again at each catalogue refresh. 95% of those plans were checked against Wanderly's own shop on 16 October 2026, so the prices here are the ones a buyer sees. Trustpilot shows 3.4 out of 5 from 2 reviews, collected independently of us. Our own rating of 4.8 out of 5 is computed from prices and coverage and cannot be bought.

How much does a Wanderly eSIM cost?

Wanderly plans run from $1.99 to $534.99. Ranked by real price per GB the best rate is 50 GB for 15 Days at $15.99, which is $0.36 per GB. Across the whole catalogue the median is $1.90 per GB against a market median of $2.83, so a typical Wanderly plan is cheaper than the market.

Does Wanderly have a discount code?

Yes. ESIMWATCHDOGWILDCARD: 10% off any Wanderly plan We tested it at Wanderly's own checkout before listing it, and using it never changes where Wanderly ranks on this site.

Which countries does Wanderly cover?

203 countries in our catalogue. The cheapest Wanderly destinations by price per GB right now are Malaysia ($0.36), Aland Islands ($0.44), Cyprus ($0.44). Every country in the table on this page links to its full comparison, where Wanderly is ranked against every other provider we track.

Can I use a Wanderly eSIM as a hotspot?

Allowed on all plans per the help centre, which says connected devices draw from the same allowance and may run at the plan's reduced speed once any high speed allowance is used up.

Does Wanderly sell unlimited data plans?

No. Every Wanderly plan has a fixed data allowance, which is why every one of them can be ranked by an honest price per GB.

How do I install a Wanderly eSIM?

Guest checkout is fine. The QR code and activation details arrive by email within a minute and also sit in the dashboard, per the help centre. Scan it or enter the activation details manually, install on home WiFi before you fly, then turn on data roaming for the travel line when you land. The QR is single install; a new install code for another phone is requested from the dashboard. Buy the plan online, scan the QR code on wifi before you fly, and leave the new line switched off until you land. Then turn on data roaming for the Wanderly line and give it a minute to attach to a network. If the code will not install, our guide to eSIM QR code errors covers every message a phone can show.
